2190 Policy – Highly Capable Programs

In order to develop the special abilities of each student, the district will offer appropriate instructional services to meet the individual needs of students identified as highly capable. 聽The framework for such programs will encompass, but not be limited to, the objectives below.

Each student identified as highly capable will be provided a continuum of services:

A. To assure the student鈥檚 growth in an area of challenge and/or nurturing an area of strength as agreed upon by the student, family and staff;

B. To maintain a high level of engagement in educational programming K-12;

C. To develop personal passion leading to exceptional achievement with the knowledge, character and action outcomes of The 一本道app;

D. To demonstrate advanced and complex learning in their area(s) of talent.

The board will annually approve the district鈥檚 highly capable application including: the number of students served by grade level; the district鈥檚 plan to identify students; program services; an instructional program description; professional development; program evaluation and fiscal report; and assurances that the district is legally compliant.

The superintendent will establish procedures consistent with state guidelines for referring, assessing and selecting children of demonstrated achievement or potential ability in terms of general intellectual ability, academic aptitude and creative or productive thinking. These include prioritizing equitable identification of low-income students; use of multiple objective criteria and multiple pathways for identification; use of local norms, unless more restrictive than national norms; use of subjective measures only to support identification; and use of screening and assessment in the student鈥檚 native language (if available) or nonverbal assessment.
